Larry has over 30 years of experience as a specialized oil and natural gas portfolio investment advisor, identifying and initiating the financing of many emerging and high-growth oil and gas companies. Larry has been extensively involved in venture capital activities and has been a sponsor and an advisor to a number of successful oil and gas companies. Larry and his wife Ruth founded Longbow in 1997. He is a University of Calgary graduate.
Tyson Birchall, CFA
Prior to joining Longbow in January 2009, Tyson was Vice President, Investment Banking at Tristone Capital Inc., a global energy specialist investment bank. While at Tristone, Tyson was directly involved in the execution of advisory mandates with total value exceeding $10 billion relating to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, corporate restructurings, fairness opinions and equity financing transactions exclusively in the Canadian and international oil and gas industry.
Tyson currently serves on the board of North West Refining Inc. and North 40 Resources Ltd.
Tyson is a CFA charter holder and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) degree from Acadia University where he graduated as a member of the Dean's List and as a University Scholar. Tyson has completed the Canadian Securities Course and Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Course through the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI).
Art has been a professional private equity investor in the energy services industry for approximately 20 years and has participated in over 100 energy services transactions with a combined value in excess of $1.5 billion.
Prior to joining Longbow, Art spent seven years with Canadian mid-market energy private equity investment firm and prior thereto Art was Vice President, Corporate Development with EnerMax Services Inc., a North American energy services fluid management company with revenues in excess of $300 million. At EnerMax, Art was responsible for executing the company’s M&A strategy, which included 20 acquisitions across Western Canada and the Northern United States. Prior to EnerMax, Art was a Vice President at SCF Partners, one of the largest energy services private equity firms in the world. During his seven years at SCF, Art led or participated in six platform investments and over 60 other energy services transactions, including add‐ons, divestitures, private portfolio company exits and bond and initial public offerings.
Art received a Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Lethbridge and a Masters of Business Administration from Queen’s University. Art currently serves on the Board of Directors of Air Drilling Associates, Inc.
Chief Financial Officer
Wiley is a Chartered Accountant with over 33 years of experience in corporate finance, financial reporting, treasury, tax and corporate planning. Wiley began his career in public practice at Price Waterhouse. Wiley was previously Managing Director and CFO of FirstEnergy Capital Corp. and was subsequently Vice President, Finance and CFO for both public and private companies operating in the oil and gas industry.
Scott Birchall, JD, CFA
Scott joined Longbow in June 2009. From July 2013 to January 2017, Scott served as Vice President, Corporate Development for Spur Resources Ltd., a Longbow portfolio company, until its sale for $407 million. Before joining Longbow, Scott worked in the Corporate Finance group with Peters & Co. Limited, where he was directly involved in the execution of advisory mandates relating to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, corporate restructurings, fairness opinions and equity financing transactions for Canadian and international upstream oil and gas companies and oil and gas services companies. Prior to this, Scott spent three years at the Calgary-based private equity firm ENTx Capital Corporation, which focused on investments in the electricity and energy industry.
Scott earned his law degree from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Bishops University, where he graduated with distinction. Scott is also a CFA charter holder.
Prior to joining Longbow in November 2012, Dan was a Senior Vice President A&D at Macquire Capital Canada and was involved in more than 160 A&D processes with a total value exceeding $35 billion over his 11 year tenure. Prior to Macquire Dan was one of the founders of Tristone Capital and was actively involved in the development of the A&D practice in Canada as well as evaluating the technical merits of numerous Oil & Gas financings with the Tristone Investment Banking group. In 2009 Tristone was acquired by Macquire Capital.
Dan has in depth geologic knowledge of the Western Canada Sedimentary basin as well as numerous International basins developed over his 35 year career as a geologist. Prior to joining Tristone, he ran his own consulting practice focusing on A&D evaluations and Business Development. Dan also worked for both large and multinational and small Exploration and Production companies for 15 years in the capacities of Geologist - VP Exploration, primarily focused on Western Canada.
Dan holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Calgary and has been a registered Professional Geologist since 1979.
Curtis Birchall, GDBA
Curtis joined Longbow in 2004. He was previously employed by Tiger 21 as Chair for Calgary. During that time he led a group of high net worth individuals and successful entrepreneurs through the impact and challenges substantial personal wealth can bring.
Curtis is the currently a director of Ryde Financial.
Curtis earned his Bachelor of Arts from Bishop’s University and his Graduate Degree in Business Administration from Institut d'Administration des Entreprises de Nice. Curtis has completed the Certified Private Equity Professional Program and also earned certificates in Petroleum Geology, Geophysics, Log Analysis and Unconventional Oil and Gas through the Canadian Energy Research Institute. Curtis has completed the Canadian Securities Course and Behavioral Finance through the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI).
He is a standing member of the Monaco Venture Capital Association, where he was previously a member of the due diligence committee and the Institute of Directors (IOD) Monaco.
Barbara is a Certified General Accountant with over 25 years of experience in public accounting. Barbara earned a Bachelor of Management with distinction degree from the University of Lethbridge in 1989 and began her career in public practice with Watkinson, Hanhart, Duda, Dorchak in Lethbridge. Barbara continued her work in public practice with various accounting firms in Calgary. In 1998, Barbara started her own business providing accounting services to professional accountants and small business. Barbara has worked with Longbow since 2001.
Office Administrator (currently on maternity leave)
Prior to joining Longbow in 2009, Demetra worked with TD Securities as a Junior Analyst and was a part of both the Oil Sands and Conventional Oil teams, which focused mainly mergers, acquisitions and corporate financings in the oil and gas sector. Prior to this, Demetra worked in the Securities group at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP. Demetra provided legal assistance to lawyers with securities related matters, including public offerings, continuous disclosure regulatory reporting, insider reporting and registrations. Demetra also maintained registrations in various jurisdictions was responsible for the preparation of documents relating to incorporations, extra-provincial registrations, continuances, amalgamations and various other transactions.
Before joining Longbow in late 2015, Nancy supported the operations of the Corporate Finance group at Peters & Co. Limited, assisting the team throughout their execution of advisory mandates relating to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, corporate restructurings, fairness opinions and equity financing transactions in the western Canadian energy sector. Prior to this, Nancy worked in the Securities group at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP providing legal assistance to lawyers with securities related matters, including public offerings, continuous disclosure regulatory reporting, insider reporting and registrations. Nancy also maintained registrations in various jurisdictions and was responsible for the preparation of documents relating to incorporations, extra-provincial registrations, continuances, amalgamations and various other transactions.
